CLEBC is proud to have hosted the November 23, 2017 Truth and Reconciliation Symposium (the “Symposium”) in collaboration with the Law Society of BC, the theme of which was “Transforming the Law from a Tool of Assimilation into a Tool of Reconciliation.” The Symposium consisted of many powerful presentations, important reflection, and open dialogue about how the legal community can begin to address the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
Highlights of the day included the keynote speech by The Honourable Judge Steven L. Point, OBC with personal stories illustrating the ways bias and discrimination are daily occurrences for Indigenous people and the now widely-viewed “But I Was Wearing a Suit” mini documentary (produced by CLEBC) about the racism Indigenous lawyers face within the legal profession.
