Tips for Reading and Annotating Paperless Course Materials on Mobile Devices

To ensure that you have the electronic course materials readily accessible on your mobile device at the event, we recommend that you download the electronic course materials onto your mobile device prior to arriving at the event, rather than relying on the wireless internet access at the venue to access the course materials.

Here is a list of tools to help you have a positive experience when reading and annotating course materials on your mobile device.

PC Laptop

If you are using a PC laptop, we recommend that you start by downloading the latest free version of Adobe Reader onto your laptop.

To open the PDF:
1. Access your e-mail account and select the message you received from CLEBC Programs (approximately 24 hours before the event).
2. Open the link in the body of that message.
3. Open the “Course Materials” link.
4. Save the PDF to your hard drive.

Navigating and Annotating Materials on your PC Laptop

Adobe Reader for your PC will allow you to jump to or search for sections of the document and make annotations throughout. Explore Adobe Reader features.

Mac Notebook

1. Access your e-mail account and select the message you received from CLEBC Programs (approximately 24 hours before the event).
2. Open the link in the body of that message.
3. Open the “Course Materials” link.
4. Save the PDF to your hard drive.

Annotating Materials on your Mac Notebook

Preview is installed on all new Macs and allows you to add annotations to the PDF file. There are two ways to access these tools:
1. Go to the Tools Menu, choose Annotate, and select the tool of choice.
2. Go to the View Menu, select Show Annotations Toolbar. This toolbar will display at the bottom of your document.
You must select the tool of choice before selecting the text to annotate. These annotation tools are toggled on and off. They stay active until you select another tool or click the active tool to turn it off.

iPad

If you are using an iPad, we recommend that you start by downloading the latest free version of the Adobe Reader mobile application onto your iPad.

To open the PDF:

1. Access your e-mail account and select the message you received from CLEBC Programs (approximately 24 hours before the event).
2. Open the link in the body of that message.
3. Tap on the “Course Materials” link.
4. Tap the upper right hand corner of the document, and then open the document in “Adobe Reader”. You are now ready to read and annotate the course materials on your iPad.

Android device

If you are using an Android tablet, we recommend that you use the free Adobe Reader application as your tool for reading and annotating the course materials. Start by downloading the application from Google Play or from the Amazon AppStore for Android.

1. Access your e-mail account and select the message you received from CLEBC Programs (approximately 24 hours before the event).
2. Open the link in the body of that message.
3. Open the “Course Materials” link.
4. If a pop-up box appears, select “Adobe Reader” to open the PDF.

iPhone

Just say no! Unless you want to get dizzy or go crazy we recommend that you do not read the course materials using an iPhone.
