About Self-Paced eLearning
Easily accessible in a one to two-hour program, Self-Paced eLearning provides video, quiz questions, and reference materials. The programs are available on demand for two weeks from your date of purchase. You work at your own pace, you control the video and question playback, you can stop part way through and your answers are saved. These programs provide CPD credit for working on your own, at your own pace.
This Self-Paced eLearning course is beneficial for: Lawyers who provide or would like to provide partial or unbundled services to clients.
Learning level: Fundamental
National studies have shown that the main reason the increasing number of self-represented people navigate the legal system alone is due to high cost of legal services. This high cost is also fueling demand for discrete services (also known as “unbundled” or “limited scope retainer” services) from lawyers to help manage fees. When done effectively, this work provides you with an opportunity to increase your client base and access to justice. At this course, you will hear from lawyers experienced with offering limited services and benefit from their insights so you can develop your own approach to providing these services in a way that meets your ethical and practice obligations.
After taking this course, you will be able to:
- understand what types of people are self-represented
- identify the types of legal services and retainer agreements appropriate for limited services
- better manage limited service relationships
- avoid the most common Law Society of BC complaints in relation to limited services
