HERE THE FIRST NATIONS HEALTH AUTHORITY SUMMARIZES IN PLAIN SIGHT: Addressing Indigenous-specific Racism and Discrimination in B.C. Health Care, the newly released report from the Hon. Dr. M.E. Turpel-Lafond (Aki-Kwe).
Systemic racism “adversely affects not only patient and family experiences but also long-term health outcomes for Indigenous peoples.” The report analyzes health data and “the voices of nearly 9,000 Indigenous patients, family members, third-party witnesses and health-care workers” and makes 24 recommendations to address systemic problems that are “deeply rooted in colonialism”.
The Addressing Racism Review was launched in June 2020 by Minister of Health Adrian Dix.
Here is a summary version of the report.
