Who should attend: Civil litigators at the intermediate level who wish to move beyond the basics and master the finer points of working with the Supreme Court Rules

Learning level: Intermediate

Knowing the Supreme Court Rules is essential—but on its own, it's not enough. This course goes beyond the black letter law to focus on how to apply the Rules effectively in real-world situations.

Designed for civil litigators looking to sharpen their practice, this course offers an arsenal of practice "secrets" that experienced counsel rely on time and again. Sessions will cover pleadings, multi-party litigation, evidence, written and oral advocacy, mediation, and trial preparation. Additional topics include using technology and AI in practice, and approaching discovery in litigation involving Indigenous people.

This course also includes a View from the Bench panel, providing insights from members of the judiciary on what makes advocacy effective in today's courtroom.

From pleadings to trial, this course delivers practical strategies, professional insights, and tactical tools to help move files forward with skill and confidence.

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 6 hours (this course will contain a minimum of 1 hour pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
